It makes sense: you sweat a lot during the summer, so the water you\u2019re losing is super obvious.<\/p><p>During winter, on the other hand, a lot of people are just walking around dehydrated\u2026without realizing it.<\/p><p>You didn\u2019t think managing your H20 intake was important when it\u2019s cold outside? Here\u2019s what you need to know.<\/p><h2>Why you may be more dehydrated during winter<\/h2><p>The bottom line is: Your body needs the same amount of water year-round.<\/p><p>Of course you do need to replace more water when you\u2019re sweating a lot, which may happen more frequently in the summer. However, during colder months, when we do sweat, it turns into vapor and doesn\u2019t sit on the skin. So while <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.psu.edu\/hydration-in-cold-weather\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">you\u2019re still losing water<\/a>, you don\u2019t get the visual (or sticky) cue to <a href=\"https:\/\/nutritiouslife.com\/drink-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drink up<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align); background-color: var(--bs-body-bg); font-size: var(--bs-body-font-size);\">Breathing cold, dry air also causes the body to lose a significant amount of fluid even if we don&#8217;t realize it.<\/span><\/p><p>And perhaps the most important point: During winter, people <i>feel<\/i>\u00a0less thirsty, regardless of how much water their body actually needs. It flushes out toxins, delivers oxygen and nutrients to cells, and keeps tissues healthy. Proper hydration also supports your immune system by keeping mucous membranes moist, which makes it harder for viruses to invade\u2014essential during the winter months!<\/span><\/p><p>During periods of dehydration, your body can\u2019t carry out normal functions and begins to feel tired and drained. You may put your head down on your desk at 3 pm or brain fog may kick in while you&#8217;re trying to multi-task while making dinner.\u00a0 In other words, if you get plenty of sleep and <a href=\"https:\/\/nutritiouslife.com\/eat-empowered\/breakfast-healthier-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eat a super healthy breakfast<\/a> to try to boost your energy, <a href=\"https:\/\/nutritiouslife.com\/drink-up\/simple-hack-hydration-more-energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">it won\u2019t matter<\/a> if you\u2019re not properly hydrated.
